That was extremely frustrating. It turned out that the reason I had to spend the entire class period and some of lunch beating my head against this lab was because of two problems. All I had to do was switch two index  values and change a single character in my remove length method, and it went from bizarre unexplained problems that defied explanation to working perfectly. Such incredibly tiny errors caused the program to bug out in very strange ways, and almost escaped my notice because the errors were strange enough I was looked for fundamental flaws in some of my methods, rather than typos.
